As a strictly application developer I've always been intrigued by web technologies, and a few months ago I was finally able to get my feet wet making two websites. Our goal was to create a site that could distribute only the highest quality Smartphone software and do it through a great looking interface.
Now I have to say there is a huge difference creating software for mobile and the web, the latter being far more straight forward and standardized. It was like I died and went to programmer heaven, all the obstacles we encountered we were able to overcome in a timely manner.
There were two main technologies that I wanted to dive into: PHP and Flash, and I got to use both of them in this project. PHP was very easy to grasp and I could always go back to my C++ roots. Flash, now that was interesting. I have to say I like it and hate it at the same time. I had some previous experience learning Flash Lite on a project and found it to be incredibly limiting (more on Flash Lite in another post). This time around, using the full blown Flash, our design guru and I were working together and came out with some pretty fancy looking layouts.
